Piratestein

One of the perks of being an artist is the variety of projects that come my way. I was one of 50 artists chosen to be a part of the "It's Alive" project, benefitting St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. The project commemorates the 80th year of the movie "Frankenstein". Given a bust of the creature and free reign, no green face paint or bolts allowed, I tapped into my inner pirate. In keeping with the classic movie, "Piratestein" is painted in black and white, and has three tattoo's. The Bride, a treasure map, and a fellow pirate. Dreads and an earring complete the look.

The unveiling is Oct. 20th at the City Arts Factory, 29 South Orange Ave. Orlando FL. The busts will be displayed thru Nov. 15th and are to be auctioned off.

ART SHOW

This weekend finds me on the west coast of FL in the town of Venice. The 10th Downtown Venice Art Classic is held on West Venice Ave on Saturday and Sunday from 10am - 5pm . Looking forward to meeting new friends and art lovers.

STUART ART FESTIVAL

The Stuart Art Festival is this weekend,and I will be in booth #73 on Osceola St. in downtown Stuart. The art show runs from 10 - 5 on both Saturday and Sunday.

SPRING CLEAN YOUR ART

Spring clean your art - it's just one more thing to add to my "honey do" list after a very long winter. It's enough that the garden needs a few plants replaced, the driveway should be pressure washed, windows need to be cleaned, and we really should have a fresh coat of paint on the sun faded walls and that's just the outside. Inside, furniture gets rearranged, closets are cleaned (I am not throwing away my favorite shirt, no matter how worn it is)and insulating drapes are removed so that only sheers or blinds remain.

So how does art get added to the list? Well, you realize that you have been looking at the same paintings in the same places for so long they no longer register. You walk through the hallway, the kitchen, bedroom and don't get that feeling of happiness or sense of discovery you had when you first hung that piece of art. They have become a fixture, not a pleasure.

So, how do you "spring clean" art? There are some quick and inexpensive ways to accomplish this (and way more fun than pressure washing...)
* Have the frame changed or painted
* Move your art to a new location, maybe a piece from the family room to a bedroom
* Change the grouping of hanging pieces (next week's blog post will show you how to group artwork differently)
* Place a small piece on a table top easel
* Add a light above the frame (there are great battery operated lights you can use)
* Frame a print that you found in the closet


I'm finishing up my "honey do" list, the windows always take me the longest.

Better Organized

Needing a bit more organization in my life, the decision was made to refine the various social media applications that I use. This blog will contain personal musings, insights and comments on my interactions with people and places. There will be a current listing of Events, causes that I support, and updates on my latest paintings.

DOWNTOWN DUNEDIN ART FESTIVAL This Saturday and Sunday from 10-5, the festival is located at 271 Main Street, Dunedin, FL. This will be only our second time on the west coast of Florida and the first time in the Tampa/Dunedin area. Stop by and check out "The Green Room", my newest turtle painting.

47th SPACE COAST ART FESTIVAL

This is our last show for the year and what better place to be than Downtown Cocoa Beach, participating in the 47th Space Coast Art Festival. We will be at booth #229 located on S. Brevard Ave just past the Minuteman Causeway. In addition to over 200 fabulous artist exibitions there will also be a student art show, a hands on craft area for the younger set and live music.
Look for us this Saturday from 9 to 5 or on Sunday from 10 to 5.
Truly a feast for all the senses. See you there!

Halifax Art Festival

Looks to be a beautiful weekend for stopping by the 48th Annual Halifax Art Festival in Daytona Beach. We are in booth #83, located on Beach Street, between Magnolia Ave and the International Speedway. In addition to hundreds of artists, there is a Kidz art zone, an old fashioned country store, and a Humane Society pet adoption area. Don't miss out on the live music and great food.
The festival runs on Saturday from 9am to 5pm and on Sunday from 10am to 5pm. Looking forward to seeing you there this weekend.

MELBOURNE MAINSTREET FALL FESTIVAL

We are kicking off the fall art show season in Melbourne, Fl this Saturday and Sunday, Oct 2nd and 3rd. We will be one of 132 exhibitors, and the event will also include a student art show, a craft show, and showcases for technology, innovation, health, beauty and other arts.
